Recovering Taylor vows to regain full fitness for World T20

Melbourne : New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor, who was ruled out of the home series against Australia due to side strain, has said that he is confident of regaining full fitness before next month’s World T20 in India, after making a successful return from injury during the country’s domestic event in Wellington.

The 31-year-old batting mainstay smashed an unbeaten 26 off just 16 balls to help his side, North Island claim a comfortable six-wicket T20 victory over the South Island in the Island of Origin clash at the Basin Reserve on Sunday.

The former New Zealand skipper, who sustained the injury during an ODI against Pakistan at Westpac Stadium, said that he would be much better in the next couple of weeks.

“The physios tell me that it’s good to stretch it out and over time it will loosen off. I’m sure by the time we play our first game, it’s going to be 100 per cent,” Taylor was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

The T20 format’s pinnacle event is slated to be held from March 8, with New Zealand playing their opening match against India on March 16 in Nagpur.

New Zealand will also feature in two World T20 warm-up matches against Sri Lanka and England in Mumbai on March 11 and 13 respectively. (ANI)
