Recovering Steyn included in Proteas World T20 squad

Johannesburg: South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn, who is recovering from a shoulder injury, has been included in the 15-man squad announced on Wednesday for next month’s World Twenty20 in India.

However, the 32-year-old pace spearhead’s inclusion is subject to his being passed fit. He sat out six of South Africa’s eight Tests this summer and is likely to return for the T20 series against Australia in the build-up to the tournament.

While towering paceman Morne Morkel was the notable omission, Rilee Rossouw and David Wiese, who missed the India series due to injury, returned to the squad.

South Africa coach Russell Domingo believes that the upcoming series against England and Australia would be an ideal opportunity for the squad to fine-tune their preparation ahead of the pinnacle event, which begins on March 8, Sport24 reported.

The 15-man squad for the World T20 is as follows:

Faf du Plessis (capt), Kyle Abbott, Hashim Amla, Farhaan Behardien, Quinton de Kock, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Imran Tahir, David Miller, Chris Morris, Aaron Phangiso, Kagiso Rabada, Rilee Rossouw, Dale Steyn, David Wiese. (ANI)
