Mumbai, December 06: Demanding reconstruction of Babri Masjid at its original site in Ayodhya, a Mumbai-based Islamic body today asked President Pratibha Patil to ensure punishment to those involved in the demolition of the mosque.
“(Babri) Masjid should be reconstructed at the same site. The demolition cannot destroy its existence as the place will always be known as Babri Masjid,” said Mohammed Saeed Noorie, general secretary of Raza Academy.
The culprits in the mosque demolition should be arrested and punished at the earliest, he said adding that a memorandum in this regard has been sent to the President.
Meanwhile, hundreds of Muslims held prayers at mosques in the city, marking the 17th anniversary of the demolition.
Noorie further said the Liberhan Commission report on the demolition should be implemented.
