Estimates Committee of A.P. Assembly stressed the need for the effective implementation of welfare schemes of Education and Poverty for the benefit of Minorities. A meeting of the Estimates Committee was held under the Chairmanship of its President Mr. C. Muthyam Reddy in Assembly yesterday. Hafiz Peer Shabbeer Ahmed, Mr. M. Rajlingam and others attended the meeting. The members took stock of the utilization of various schemes pertaining to Urdu Academy, Wakf Board, Minorities Finance Corporation and the Department of Minorities Welfare. The committee while applauding the functioning of the Department of Minorities Welfare suggested that the welfare schemes should be linked up to employment generation programs.
Prof. S.A Shukoor, Director of Urdu Academy has presented a scheme for offering new computer courses for which Rs. 1.30 crore is estimated. The members suggested that Dairatul-e-Maarif of Osmania University should generate its own income without depending on financial assistance from the Govt. A wide publicity should be made for the sale of its publications.
The committee also reviewed the functioning of Center for Educational Development of Minorities, at Nizam College, OU. The committee felt to strengthen it. Mr. Muthyam Reddy suggested for the establishment of residential schools and colleges for minorities. He also suggested giving top priority for the education women. MD of Minorities Finance Corporation, Director of Urdu Academy, EO of Hajj Committee, Survey Commissioner, CEO of Wakf Board, Mr. M.A. Gaffar, OSD of Wakf Board and others attended the meeting.
