Reckless driving snuffs out 5 lives

Hyderabad, March 25: It was rash and negligent driving which claimed the lives of five persons, including two youngsters, late Tuesday night.

In the accident on the Greenlands flyover, which left two youths dead and one battling for life, the impact was such that the bike skidded for more than 100 yards and when the vehicle crashed into the road-divider, two of the youngsters rebounded to the other side of the road.

β€œAt the sharp curve on the approach to the flyover, the rider lost control while overtaking a vehicle at high speed and crashed,’’ Begumpet police sub-inspector Ramulu said, quoting an eyewitness.

The motorcyle was being ridden by Sandeep alias Sunny (19), a private employee.

While he fell on the road divider, pillion riders Srikanth (20) and Ranjit were propelled to the other side. Sunny and Srikanth (also a private employee) died instantly while Ranjit, a Class IV employee at Osmania University, is battling for life.

In a similar accident at Moinabad, the driver of a speeding DCM van lost control and the vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a tree.

The vegetable-laden van was coming from Khanapur and nearby villages in Ranga Reddy district to the Gudimalkapur market.

Three farmers, Madhav Reddy, Ch Krishna and P Ramulu, were killed when crates of carrot and tomatoes fell on them, Moinabad police inspector V Bhaskar said.
