Karachi, May 5 (ANI): Recalled Pakistan batsman Umar Amin has said that he is determined to assert himself during the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy following a turbulent start to his international career in 2010. The left-handed Amin, who also bowls useful right-arm medium-pacers, had a disappointing performance during his early days while representing Pakistan when he accumulated just 34 runs in three Asia Cup matches in the Sri Lanka, the Dawn reports.
According to the report, although Amin got another chance to show his mettle when he played four consecutive Test matches – two apiece against Australia and England – on that ill-fated trip to England in 2010, he failed to do that as he managed to score just 99 runs. Stating that his fall from grace during his international debut had left him doubting his capability, Amin said that he then vowed to become a better cricketer and started a long, hard grind to achieve the desired goals for which he was picked for the Twenty20 squad for the series in India and the recent South Africa tour.
Stating that he will be continuing his hard work to ensure his team”s success in the eight-nation tournament, Amin said that his domestic form might have been responsible for his selection in the squad, although he admitted that he was least expecting to be included in the 15-man squad for the Champions Trophy despite making the list of probables. Amin further said that he was greatly inspired by the work of 1992 World Cup-winning Pakistan captain Imran Khan, adding that Khan has made a very big impact on his life.
A successful county cricketer for Lancashire, Amin has the distinction of piling up most first-class runs in 2012-13 domestic season with a tally of 1321 in 15 matches with former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif and former first-class cricketer Sabih Azhar being the driving force behind this success, the report added.
