Washington: An appeals court on Thursday reduced Rebel Wilson’s damage award after a magazine publisher appealed the amount of its payout in a defamation case.
The damage award was slashed to AU$600,000 which was earlier amounted to 4.6 million Australian dollars.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the judge had earlier awarded 4.6 million Australian dollars to the Pitch Perfect actress after articles claiming the comic actress lied about her age; origins of her first name and her upbringing in Sydney were published in magazines by Bauer Media.
Bauer did not appeal the verdict that the articles were defamatory but argued the Australian-record damages awarded in September were excessive.
The Bridesmaids actress took to Twitter and wrote, “I’m away on location in Europe filming right now,”
“As I’ve said before, I have already won the case and this is unchallenged! This case was never about the money for me,” she added.
The 38-year-old actress was not in the Court of Appeal in Melbourne to hear the three judges’ decision.
