Madrid: Real Madrid star central defender Sergio Ramos feels his side are obliged to win the El Clasico fixture in the La Liga against league leaders Barcelona on Saturday to remain in contention for defending their title.
Reigning champions Real Madrid are currently placed fourth in the La Liga. “It will be a great match,” remarked Ramos at a sponsorship event on Tuesday.
“There are no words to describe the Clasico,” the Spaniard was quoted as saying by Marca on Tuesday.
“It is totally different, and the most important game in the world.
“We are obliged to win now more than ever due to the situation we find ourselves in, in order to remain in the fight for La Liga,” Ramos added.
The 31-year-old also said Real Madrid are confident after clinching their second consecutive Club World Cup and working hard for the forthcoming tie against Barcelona.
“We come into it in good form after winning the Club World Cup, which always suits the team on a psychological level,” the defender said.
“We are eager to play and have been working hard this week, so hopefully we can get the three points that will allow us to stay close to those teams ahead of us,” Ramos added.
