Real Madrid celebrates UEFA Champions League title

Madrid: Real Madrid’s players celebrated their 13th UEFA Champions League title with thousands of their fans at Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu stadium, after the Spanish football club crushed Liverpool 3-1 in the Champions League final in Kiev.

Together with Real Madrid’s UEFA Champions League victory, the Bernabeu stadium was also chosen to celebrate Real Madrid Basketball team’s 10th EuroLeague champion title, after last week the team won against Fenerbahce Dogus Istanbul in Belgrade, reports Efe.

Never before had any sports club managed to win the maximum continental trophies in a single season. But this week, Real Madrid, in seven days, won both the EuroLeague and the UEFA Champions League.

The ground of the Santiago Bernabeu stadium was the place where the two teams came together to offer their titles to the Madridistas, who had previously gathered up around the Almudena Cathedral, Puerta del Sol and Plaza de Cibeles to celebrate the triumphs.

However, it was Cristiano Ronaldo who stole the spotlight of the day, after he had hinted, following the final in Kiev, that he would leave the club in summer.

Before arriving at the stadium, the Portuguese player was very active in the celebrations with the rest of his teammates, and at the insistence of the fans who had gathered at the Puerta del Sol, he spoke a few words.

“Good afternoon. Thank you for coming here this afternoon. It’s an unforgettable moment. It’s a spectacular job. We made history, and that’s what we were looking for. Thanks to the Madridistas. It’s a happy moment. We are very happy and thank you, Hala Madrid!” he told the fans.
