Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh): The Uttar Pradesh Government has told the Allahabad High Court that it was ready to order a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe in the Bulandshahr gang rape case if the court desired so.
The government counsel told a Lucknow bench yesterday that it had no hesitation in handing over the probe to the central agency.
The counsel said Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has already said that he was ready for a CBI probe if the victim family demanded so.
The bench deferred the hearing till August 22, asking the parties to file an affidavit regarding the development on another petition on the same issue in Allahabad.
Taking suo motu cognisance of thematter, the Allahabad High Court had decided to hear the matter yesterday.
The case was heard by a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Dilip Babasaheb Bhosale and Justice Yashwant Varma.
The bench asked the state government to apprise it with regard to the government policy, if any, to ensure safety and security of public at highways in the state.
It directed the state government to file a reply within 48 hours and fixed August 10 as the next date for hearing.
The horrific incident took place on July 29 when the mother-daughter duo, accompanied by four other family members, was dragged out of their car on the highway and raped in a nearby field. (ANI)
