Amid tight security to prevent the repetition of attacks and counter-attacks between the major contesting parties, re-polling started at 36 polling stations in Puranapul area on Friday morning.
According to reports, the voter turnout was rather high at 39.50% by noon. Repolling was necessitated as the polling on February 2 was marred when the MIM, Congress and BJP men came to blows and cases were filed. Security was tightened with 800 police personnel to ensure that the people exercise their franchise without any hindrance or inconvenience. The Election officials are watching the polling process through webcasting.
Simultaneously, the officials made arrangements for the much-awaited counting of votes in 150 divisions that went to polls on February 2. As many as 5,626 staffers are on the job of counting of votes polled. The officials set up 24 counting centers in 24 circles comprising 88 halls, according to GHMC officials. As many as 1333 candidates are in the fray for 150 wards from various political parties. Elaborate security arrangements were made and ban order under Section 144 Cr.P.C was imposed at all the polling stations
