Mumbai: The Reserve Bank of India will soon release new banknotes of Rs 20 denomination with a letter ‘S’ embedded in it. The year of printing, 2016, will appear on the reverse. The design of banknotes to be issued will be similar in all aspects to the Rs 20 banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005 issued earlier.
RBI reported “The Reserve Bank will shortly issue Rs 20 denomination banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005, with inset letter S in both the number panels, bearing the signature of Raghuram G Rajan, Governor, RBI. All banknotes in the denomination of Rs 20 issued by the Bank in the past will continue to be legal tender.”
