Mumbai, Dec 18: Government sources say that the RBI Governor D Subbarao is likely to meet Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee later today, reports CNBC-TV18 quoting NewsWire18. The key issues at this meet, would be that of tackling inflation and containing food prices.
Food prices are increasingly becoming a worry for the RBI, which is now trying to balance between growth and inflation. The annual rate of inflation based on monthly wholesale price index (WPI) for the month of November was up 4.78%, according to data released recently. Food prices alone have risen by around 20% in the last one year.
The finance minister said on Thursday that rising food prices was an area of concern and would consider imports to augment food supply.
