Guntur Congress MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao is deeply dejected after his request for appointment as the TTD chairman was rejected by the party leadership.
Rayapati whose claim for cabinet berth at the centre was not considered despite his seniority, has personally met party chief Sonia Gandhi and asked her to provide him at least an opportunity to serve Lord Venkateswara. However, ignoring his request, the party chose to appoint Kanumuri Bapiraju for a one-year term as the TTD chairman. Rayapati renewed his trials as Kanumuri’s term was ending. But the Congress leadership has chosen to extend Kanumuri’s term by two years.
With this ill-treatment, Rayapati and his followers have become angry with the Congress leadership. His followers are insisting that he should resign from the party. District youth Congress president Kanaparti Srinivas has openly said there was no point in Rayapati continuing in Congress, which has indirectly stated that it did not need his services.
Speaking to the media here on Sunday, Rayapati has said his followers were insisting that he should resign from Congress. He said he would however meet the party president Sonia Gandhi before taking a decision on leaving the party. (NSS)
