Colombo: India’s team director Ravi Shastri has backed Virat Kohli to excel in his career’s first three-match Test series as captain, ahead of the Galle Test against Sri Lanka, which starts from August 12.
“Virat is young. He has got that exuberance of youth. With all these tours, he is only going to grow and experienced. I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that he has got some real qualities of being a leader. This experience will help him immensely,” Shastri said.
Shastri also admitted that the team have had a lot of cricket overseas and it is time for them to come of age and take one step forward.
India are aiming to win a first series on the Island nation in more than two decades when the first Test starts here from Wednesday. (ANI)
