Hyderabad: Distribution of ration cards was once again hindered as the centre objected on the photos of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Civil Supplies Minister E Rajendra on the cards. The cards were ready to be distributed when centre objected on the cards bearing photos of CM and minister. Ration Cards are now called as food security card as rice is being supplied on concessional rates under Food Security Act. Telangana government has put distribution of cards on hold until it receives centre’s response on the issue.
Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav stoked controversy for distributing new ration cards bearing his photograph and name ahead of the assembly polls scheduled to take place next year. This move by Akhilesh Yadav was slammed by the Centre who objected over states printing their own photos on cards since the subsidy burden of food grains being supplied under FSA is borne by the Centre.
