Ratification of extradition treaty between India, Indonesia deferred

Jakarta, Nov. 2 : The letters for formalising extradition treaty between India and Indonesia which were to be exchanged today did not take place as expected because both sides felt there was no need for it at this juncture.

“As far as both sides are concerned, the extradition treaty is ratified as of December 15, 2014,” said Secretary (East) Anil Wadhwa.

Commenting on Chhota Rajan, Wadhwa said the issue is being handled at the consular level of India and Indonesia, adding that all the formalities regarding possible deportation of the underworld don to India would take place sooner than later.

Vice President M. Hamid Ansari earlier said that the concerned agencies of the two countries were working together on the matter of extradition, adding that there was full cooperation from the Indonesian side.

The Vice President said that the process for ratification of the treaty was on and added that it would be completed soon.

The two countries, however, inked agreements on new and renewable sources of energy and cultural exchange. (ANI)
