Rare coin of East India Company found

Hyderabad, September 24: Department of Archeology and Museum has recovered a rare copper coin belonging to the East Indian Company period on Thursday. It must be noted that this coin has been collected from the first class judicial magistrate of Srikakulam.

Prof. P Chenna Reddy, director, department of Archaeology and Museums disclosed that the diameter of the coin is 3.8 centimeter and it weighs 24.86 grams. The year of release of the coin is 1818 embossed on it and the reverse side of the coin has the clear images of Sri Ram, Sita and Lakshman and Anjani.

Prof P Chenna Reddy, director, department of Archaeology and Museums said the coin is known as Ramatanka. The coin was reported to have been issued during the Sriramanavami celebrations by the East India Company in Srikakulam.
