Rapolu seeks assitance for debt-trapped Sircilla weavers

“The suicide of Weaver couple Bandi Ambadas and Lavanya of Sircilla of Karimanagr district yesterday, displays the agony prevalent among the weaving families and high lights their growing loan burden and inability to repay,” Rajya Sabha member Rapolu Ananda Bhaskar said here on Tuesday.

Raopula said that the young couple of Sircilla made every effort to sustain their situation before opting for this grave decision. Ambadas also went to Gulf in search of livelihood recently and he could not find any work there. With this agonizing incident, Sircilla is once again looking as Urishaala, he said.

Rapolu said that there was every need for the remedial measures both by the Union and State Governments to identify such loan trapped families and the necessary mechanism to counsel them and to provide them with possible life saving support besides relieving them from the debt-trap. “I demand both the Union and state Governments for immediate humanitarian measures including ex-gratia and confidence building steps to the dependents of Ambadas and Lavanya. I am separately writing once again to both the governments on weavers’ strife,” he said. (INN)
