A tribal woman in West Bengal is being forced out of her home by her own villagers after she was allegedly gang raped by five men. Indicating another sign of the society’s continued apathy towards woman, the victim is being treated inhumanely despite her trouble.
The victim, a construction worker, was on her way back to her home along with a male colleague when five men accosted her and took her to an isolated place and raped her.
The victim filed a complaint against her assailants but all she could get from her villagers was threats and no support.
In fact, the villagers are demanding her to pay a fine of Rs 12,000 for filing a complaint and have already seized her cows. They are now asking her to leave her village. Some of them have even asked her to commit suicide by either hanging or by consuming poison.
