The Rape victim who is unknown to many

Can any one remember the 11 year-old girl who was abducted in Sikar, Rajasthan and brutally gang-raped and left on the road to die, four months before the Capital and the whole nation was dumbfound by the atrocious gang rape and resulting in death of a 23- year old physiotherapy student in December 2012.

One- and- a- half- year and more than 20 surgeries later, family of the 12- year- old is engaged in a lonely battle.

Almost two years and more than 21 surgeries later, all she desired to do is go back home. “ When will I go home and play with my friends?” the minor asks her elder sister. At the AIIMS for yet another reconstructive surgery, doctors treating her said the minor’s walls of her urine and stool passage and gastrointestinal passage are totally damaged. She was raped by eight scoundrels, of which the police managed to held only four. Among the four, two of them got bail and four others even now roam unchain.

According to the sources at AIIMS, the girl’s condition is as bad, if not worse, as the December 16 gang rape victim.

Medical Superintendent of AIIMS, Dr D. K. Sharma said, “ The minor has before now undergone 17 surgeries in Rajasthan. Three reconstructive surgeries have also performed on her. She had severe injuries in her peritoneal lining ( stomach). We have made an artificial opening on her stomach for passage of stool. We will later on shift this opening to the back of her body once the surgeries on the intestinal part are restore to health.” A reconstructive surgery planned for Thursday couldn’t be carried out because she wasn’t found healthy enough to go under the knife one more time. She will have to visit the hospital next month. The minor is under the supervision of Dr V. Bhatnagar, HOD of paediatric surgery at AIIMS. Dr Sharma added,“Her condition is critical. That’s why her treatment is not easy and simple”.

As she plays with medical equipment, the gravity of the viciousness meted out to the minor girl seems to have been rub out from her memory. But a closer look reveals signs of mental trauma — the now 12- year- old doesn’t talk much and doesn’t blink often, doctors warn that these signs could be of psychological problems. According to doctors reports, When adult, the girl’s reproductive and sexual life may be hampered.
“We are doing the best we can.

She would need psychoanalysis when she recovers fully. Physically, she would be perfectly fine however in some cases, patients may lose control over urination and passing stool slightly. In this patient, only time will tell to what extent she recovers,” said Dr Sharma.

Though traumatized and dejected by the brutality suffered by the minor, her sister is determined to continue the fight. “I am here with my sister for treatmen since last year. I was not satisfied with the treatment given to her in Rajasthan, I request the doctors to refer her to AIIMS,” said the victims sister. Her sister, was the initial target of the men who make off with her sister in a car on August 20, 2012. The minor, her three sisters and a neighbour were on their way home after watching a movie.

At an age when most children cherish their books, clothes and toys, this 12-year old minor is silently suffering the pain of a brutal gang-rape.

The minor is currently staying at Rajasthan Bhawan with her sister. The sister said the financial help they used to get from the government every month has stopped.
