Rape threats to Gurmehar: Delhi Police registers FIR

New Delhi [India]: The Delhi Police on Tuesday registered an FIR against unknown persons in connection with the rape threats issued to Delhi University (DU) student Gurmehar Kaur.

The FIR was registered under Sections 354-A and 506 of the Indian Penal Code ( IPC) and 67 IT Act.

This came after Delhi Commission of Women ( DCW) chief Swati Maliwal issued a notice to the Delhi Police, asking them to provide details regarding the manhandling of women protesters.

Gurmehar, who alleged rape threats over her social media campaign, pulled out of a march today against the campus violence.

In a series of tweets, the 20-year-old also appealed to others to join the “Save DU” march at the Delhi University campus by students and teachers in large numbers.

Gurmehar was given police protection yesterday after she was trolled with tweets threatening rape over her Facebook post against the Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

Clashes erupted last week after the ABVP students allegedly manhandled and thrashed students protesting the cancellation of an event at Ramjas College at which controversial JNU student Umar Khalid was scheduled to speak. (ANI)
