In a new development, soon after the encounter of four accused in Hyderabad doctor’s rape and gruesome murder case, President of India Ram Nath Kovind said he wants to do away with mercy petitions under POCSO Act cases, Quint reports.
Speaking at an event in Rajasthan’s Sirohi, President of India has expressed that rape convicts under POCSO Act should not have right to file mercy petition.
The law would ensure the perpetrators are punished for their crime.
