Rape attempt on Judicial officers by cousins

AMID disturbing news of women and minor girls, mostly belonging to backward castes, being raped and killed in Uttar Pradesh, another one involving a woman judicial officer in Aligarh surfaced on Monday morning.

According to the local police, two people tried to sexually assault a woman judicial officer in Aligarh on Sunday night.

The officer was alone at home in an officer’s colony under Civil Lines police station when Gopal Gupta of Bareilly and Pankaj Gupta of Farrukhabad allegedly broke open the door of her house on the first floor at night.

They tried to sexually assault her, attacked her with knives and forced her to drink insecticide, police said.

The officer’s maid found her in an unconscious state on Monday morning.

She alerted the colony’s security guards when no one responded to the maid’s knocks on the door.

The police, who were subsequently called, found her lying unconscious in the house when one of them looked through the window of the house. She was taken to JN Medical College where she was stated to be out of danger.

Police said there are several injury marks, possibly made by knives, on her body.

Initial police report suggest that the men were her distant relatives with whom she was involved in some family dispute.

The officer’s brother, who lives in Farrukhabad, reached Aligarh on Monday evening and registered a case against the two relatives.

He told the police that the two men entered his sister’s house after breaking a rear door. They then tried to sexually assault her and then attempted to kill her. He said the two ran away later, leaving his sister to die.

Circle Officer Sansar Singh said prima facie it was a case of revenge because of family dispute. “ Two police teams have been constituted to nab the culprits soon,” he said.
