New Delhi, September 02: Senior Congress leader and convenor of Parliamentary Forum of OBC MPs V Hanumantha Rao has favoured constitution of a Parliamentary Committee for OBCs to provide justice to the backward classes.
“Kindly take steps for constituting a Parliamentary Committee for OBCs before the next Parliamentary session so that the injustice done to the backward classes for the last 17 years can be minimised,” Rao said in a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
He said even after 17 years since the implementation of the Mandal Commission recommendation of 27 per cent reservation to OBCs, only seven per cent OBCs got the benefit of Government jobs.
Stating that the National Commission for Backward Classes, which came into force in 1993 does not have the power to inquire or investigate grievances of OBC people, Rao requested the Prime Minister to give the body the constitutional powers.
