Chennai, April 30: A legal notice has been issued to Internet major Google and its subsidiary YouTube on behalf of actress Ranjitha asking them to remove the video clips, purportedly linking her with Swami Nithyananda by 5 pm on May 2. The notices were issued by a Delhi-based law firm, P M Law Chambers.
Releasing a ‘statement of Ms Ranjitha’ to the media on Thursday, advocate Prashant Mendiratta of PM Law Chambers, said that it was her first statement to the media after March 2. It claimed that her purported interviews published by a few publications were ‘totally fabricated’ and ‘totally false’.
Describing Ranjitha as “a hard working, dedicated woman with high morals and has never been accused of any misdemeanour or wrong in the past 20 years that she has been in the industry”, Mendiratta said Ranjitha did not want to discuss the incident any further with the media.
She “will stay away from her public life to spend time with her family to recover from the traumatic allegation. She will however fully work with the authorised channels to put this behind her.” The statement said the video clips, first shown by a popular television channel, had led to a “continued representation by the media and liberal use of her name without verification.
“The authenticity, originality of the alleged person featuring in the video, taken clandestinely has to stand the test of admissibility before being treated as evidence in the court of law,” the statement said.
“The video clips clearly amount to a gross violation of various laws of India, have malicious, diabolical and destructive intent and are clearly aimed at bringing harm to our client, Ms Ranjitha… Our client rightly disassociates herself from the said video, which has caused danger to her life, limb and property,” it said. The statement pointed out that the creation of such a sex clip itself is illegal under Indian law. Ditto its uploading or downloading.
The statement rubbished reports that the Karnataka CID had spoken to Ranjitha and asked her to appear in Bangalore. The firm said it will take necessary legal action against the person/s that are responsible for the loss of reputation and harassment that Ranjitha has suffered.
