Ranji final: Mumbai take first innings lead against Karnataka

Mysore, January 12: Mumbai fought back to snatch a crucial first innings lead against Karnataka on the second day of the Ranji Trophy final here on Tuesday.

The defending champions were bowled out for 233 on the first day but Mumbai seamers led by Aavishkar Salvi (5-30) skittled out the hosts for 130 runs for a 103-run lead at the Gangothri Glades Cricket Ground.

Karnataka bowlers then sprang to the challenge to reduce Mumbai to 108 for five in their second innings, with Abhimanyu Mithun taking four for 39.

In all, 15 wickets fell on day two with Abhishek Nayar (32) and Dhawal Kulkarani (35) at the crease at close of play as Mumbai extended their lead to 211 runs.

Earlier, Karnataka batsmen could survive a mere 49.3 overs with opener K.B. Pawan top scoring with 33 runs.
