Rane attacks Sena for opposing Jaitapur nuclear project

Mumbai, April 21: Taking on the Shiv Sena for opposing the Jaitapur nuclear project, Maharashtra Industries Minister Narayan Rane today alleged that 11 corporate houses have offered Rs 500 crore to the party to get it scuttled.

Rane told the state Assembly that fearing they would have to lower tariffs on electricity produced by them if Jaitapur project sees the light of the day, 11 corporate houses had approached a “particular political party” in order to scuttle it.

“According to our information, that political party is Shiv Sena and the input is being probed,” Rane, a former chief minister with a strong support base in the Konkan region where the project is coming up, told the House.

Shiv Sena’s public meeting in Jaitapur, originally slated for April 3 was postponed to April 9 after a sum was paid as advance, he alleged.
