Hyderabad, September 22: Citing technical reasons, the counsel for the accused in the Satyam Computer Services (SCS) fraud today requested the 21st Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court to postpone the trial until the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) completes it’s investigation.
CBI public prosecutor K Surender, however, opposed the plea. The magistrate reserved the decision for Friday after directing the public prosecutor to submit in writing mentioning the reasons for opposition.
The advocate for Ramalinga Raju argued that the CBI had till now filed three chargesheets and could file one more in the time to come since it said that the investigation was still in progress.
“The CBI is yet to submit its final investigation report to the court. In case another chargesheet is filed, then a situation may arise wherein two trials might have to be taken up at the same time. Therefore, the proceeding in this case may be kept in abeyance until CBI files its final report,” the defence lawyers said. But Surender said trial could be conducted since the CBI filing another chargesheet was not a certainty.
During the arguments earlier, the advocate for Ramalinga Raju refuted the
allegations in the third chargesheet which talked about the criminal conspiracy of the accused. The CBI said there were two reasons why Ramalinga Raju and others conspired to inflate the profits. First, to lure customers and second, to attract prospective customers to invest in Satyam.
