Ramadan Moon sighted, fasting begins on Saturday

Muslims in India will begin fasting from Saturday. The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee declared this after the report of moon sighting was received from a village of Mysore.

Due to cloudy weather the moon sighting was delayed but after the confirmation from Karnataka the Ruet-e-Hilal committee declared that the crescent of Ramzan-Ul-Mubarak sighted in Hyderabad. Taraweeh prayers begins lately in the mosque.

The first fast will be observed on Saturday.

With the committee confirming sighting of moon, announcements were made and sirens were blared from the mosques across the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. People were seen congratulating each other on the occasion.

With the sighting of moon, Namaz-e-Taraveeh or special prayers began though late at hundreds of mosques in Hyderabad.

People began flocking to the markets to make last-minute shopping for ‘Sehr’ or pre-dawn meals. The fasting, which begins at the dawn, ends with ‘Iftar’ at the sunset.
With the sighting of the crescent, the Holy Month of Ramzan
has begun in Hyderabad and its surroundings on Friday night.

After making an announcement that the moon was not sighted, the Central Ruiyat-e-Hilal
Committee revised its decision following confirmation from Mysore and Chennai that
the moon has been sighted in those cities. Therefore, the Holy Month of Ramzaan has
commenced and the first Roza or fasting will be observed on July 21.

Majlis-e-Ulema-e-Deccan president Syed Mohammed Qubul Pasha Quadri Shuttari
gave the official declaration after the religious Ulema (learned men) met at Hussaini
Building, Moazzam Jahi Market. The committee headed by Moulana Syed Shah Qubool
Pasha Shuttari met here this evening and said that the moon was sighted at Hyderabad,
Bangalore, Adilabad, Karimnagar and other places.

As soon as the announcement was made, sirens were rung in the city and other important
towns and cities and the Muslim community exchanged greetings for commencement of
Ramazan.

The meeting was attended by Moulana Mufti Mohammed Azeemuddin, Moulana Syed
Kazim Pasha Quadri, Moulana Mufti Khaleel Ahmed, Moulana Syed Mohammed Aulia
Husssaini Murtuza Pasha, Tariq Quadri and other prominent Muslim scholars and elders.

Meanwhile, the State Government has given orders permitting Muslims employees,
including teachers and outsourcing employees, to leave their offices at 4 PM through out
the month of Ramzaan, except when their presence is required in case of emergencies.

This year, the timing of fasting or Roza will be 16 minutes longer than last year. The first
Roza will be of 14 hours and 37 minutes. While the Saheri timing will end at 4.22 am, the
first Iftar will be at 6.59 pm. However, the Rozas will become shorter every day and the
last roza will be of 14 hours and 11 minutes.

Special arrangements have been at all mosques across the State for the conduct of
Taraveeh prayers in the night. In Mecca Masjid, nearly 8,000 to 10,000 Muslims are
expected to participate in the Taraveeh prayers where Hafiz Moulana Abdullah Qureshi
Al-Azhari will recite three Paaras (chapters) of Holy Quran each day for the first 10
days of Ramzan. Similarly, management committees of different mosques have made
arrangements for the conduct of Taraveeh prayers.

Arrangements have also been made at several places for Simaat-e-Quran, the
congregations where Holy Quran is recited. Such gatherings are primarily attended by
women.

Friday being the 29th of Shabaan, the Muslims have also celebrated the birth anniversary
of Hazrath Ghouse-e-Azam Dastagir at a large scale at several places in the city.

It may be mentioned that the Holy month of Ramzan has already begun in the Arab
countries and the first Roza was observed on Friday across the Middle-East.
