Hyderabad: CM of Telangana, Mr. KCR instructed the Dept. of Minorities Welfare to place orders for the supply of Ramadan gift packets containing clothes to Govt. agency namely, Telangana State Handloom Weavers’ Cooperative Society from next year.
Secretary of the Dept. of Minorities Welfare, Mr. Syed Omer Jaleel, IAS informed the officials to comply with these orders of the CM. The cooperative society requested the Govt. to place an order at least four months before so that quality garments could be prepared well in advance.
It may be mentioned that gift packets containing Sari, shirt, shelwar, payjama and Kurta are supplied during Ramadan every years to poor Muslims.
Complaints were received regarding the inferior quality of the garments. Dept. of Minorities Welfare also believes that the garments are not of good quality. However, a tender for Rs. 380 per package was sanctioned. Within this amount, no agency could be able to supply good garments.
Secretary of the Dept. of Minorities Welfare informed that during this year, more than 40 lakh gift packets have already been supplied but nearly 8000 gift packets are yet to be supplied through the Masajid since the order was given late and some of the corporators did not furnish the names of Masajid. The Dept. of Minorities Welfare, has, therefore, decided to get these packets distributed through the local persons. If any packets remain undistributed, they would be given to the students studying in minorities’ residential schools. Last year’s gift packets are also preserved in Wakf Board. The secretary has instructed the Wakf Board to examine these clothes and if they are found in good condition, they could be given to deserving people.
The officials of the Dept. of Textile were posted at places where packing was done to check the quality of the garments. He further informed that for Kurta and Pyjama, 23 lakh meter cloth was purchased.
