Rajneeti under Censor Board scrutiny

Mumbai, May 20: Some Censor Board members were reportedly fazed after viewing Rajneeti. As a result, the film has been referred to a revising committee.

A source told the Mumbai Mirror that while some board members are willing to clear the film, others are inclined to be cautious, because of the film, touted as a hard hitting political drama, comes uncomfortably close to reality.

Since the film was first announced a year ago, there have been persistent rumors that Katrina Kaif’s character in it is inspired from that of congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Both Katrina and filmmaker Prakash Jha vehemently deny the link, but Katrina and Sonia’s alien origins and anglicized diction are enough similarities for detractors to conjure a parallel.

Prakash Jha, after being in denial about the film’s certification travails, now acknowledges there is a problem.

“Yes, the Revising Committee will now take a decision on Raajneeti. The Censor Board felt that they need to show the film to more officials before taking a decision,” he told the Mumbai Mirror.

However, Jha remains optimistic.

“Frankly, I didn’t expect this. But it’s okay. I don’t think that the Revising Committee will necessarily find a problem with the film,” he says.
