Rajnath reviews border area projects

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday reviewed border area projects such as roads, floodlights, border outposts and integrated check posts, an official release said.

Major impediments hampering the development of border infrastructure were also discussed in the meeting, which was attended by Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju and Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi.

Rajnath Singh issued directions that the ongoing projects should be completed on priority and in a time-bound manner and technological solutions should be put in place where physical barriers were not possible.

This will involve networking of equipment like high resolution cameras, radars, unattended ground sensors, optical fibres, infra red sensors, aerostats and hand-held thermal imagers, the statement said.

Home Secretary-designate Rajiv Gauba, heads of border guarding forces and senior officers from different organisations were also present in the meeting.

Rajnath Singh also expressed his concern about the difficulties being experienced by the residents of the border areas and sought necessary assistance to them in the field of education, health and other basic necessities.
