Rajnath releases book authored by union home secy

New Delhi: A good book is the greatest gift to the next generation, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said today after releasing ‘India 2017’, a book authored by Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi for civil services aspirants.

Singh said it is very common for a retired bureaucrat to write a book but very rare for a serving civil servant.

“I appreciate Mehrishi for writing the book despite holding a very crucial and busy post. He is excellent in time management besides being a very talented person,” Singh said.

The home minister said the book is full of information about India’s history, culture, economy, society and geography and would be helpful to the future generation in understanding the country.

“A good book is the greatest gift to the next generation.

The book would be beneficial to the students in coming years,” he said at the function attended by several top bureaucrats and police officers.

Mehrishi said it is a comprehensive compendium of all data and facts related to India.

“The book is an honest endeavour on my behalf to provide a strong resource for civil services preparations with wide ranging study materials,” he said.

The union home secretary hoped his book would prove to be a useful tool to the civil services and other competitive examinations aspirants in their preparation.

Mehrishi said it also provides information on current affairs, including two articles written on demonetisation — one about positive effects and another on negative effects.

CEO of the NITI Aayog Amitabh Kant said Mehrishi was a great sportsperson and brilliant student at St Stephen’s college.

“Mehrishi manages to play golf in the morning, runs the country as union home secretary during the day and still manages to write a book. It shows his unique personality,” he said.

The book is published by McGraw Hill Education India.
