Rajnath invites Singapore to set up skill development centre in India

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, appreciating Singapore’s cooperation with New Delhi in the fields of security, police cooperation, economic and culture cooperation, on Tuesday invited the city-state to set up a skill development centre in India.

During a delegation level meeting with the Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Chee Hean Teo on the sidelines of the third Interpol General Assembly meet here, Singh underlined six fields where the ties between the two nations could be improved – strategic partnership, scaling of trade and investment, speeding connectivity including air and maritime, skill development, smart cities including urban development with waste and water management, the state’s focus to forge cultural and economic ties.

Singh also emphasize the fact that Singapore is a vital partner for India towards gateway to Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries, adding that India appreciates the role played by the city-state in this regard.

The Union Home Minister also requested that the pending Letter of Rogatories in Singapore may be looked into on priority.

The close relationship shared by India and Singapore is based on convergence of economic and political interests. The process of economic reforms in India since the early 1990s created a strong basis for cooperation with Singapore , opening up possibilities for significant presence in each others’ economies. As pluralistic societies, the two countries share similar concern about the challenges posed by terrorism and fundamentalism and have, therefore, found it mutually beneficial to evolve a broad framework of security cooperation.
