Rajnath calls for political consensus on anti-conversion law

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said that all parties should arrive at a consensus over an anti-conversion bill to deal with the issue of forced conversion.

“An anti-conversion bill should be introduced and all political parties should think about it seriously and consensus should be developed,” he said.

Earlier this month, around 200 people were converted to Hinduism in a ceremony in Agra by groups linked to the BJP’s ideological mentor RSS. Several groups had termed this move as ‘ghar vapasi’ programme following which there were objections from several quarters.

The Winter Session of Parliament was frequently stalled by the opposition parties over the religious conversion row as they repeatedly demanded a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue. (ANI)
