Congress leader Rajiv Shukla welcomed the renewal of the defence agreement between India and the U.S. for a further ten-year period, calling it a good development.
“The ten-year cooperation agreement between the US and India in the defence sector is a good development. Indo-US cooperation in defence has been going on from the time Rajiv Gandhi was the Prime Minister. We are all for a close relationship between the U.S. and India,” Shukla told ANI here.
Shukla also said that the Congress party had no problems with the signing of the agreement, claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was merely following the policies laid down by the UPA government.
“The cooperation between the US and India has been taken further by the current Prime Minister of the country. We feel that not only in defence, the cooperation between both countries should be in all sectors. Narendra Modi is following the policies of Congress both in domestic and international policies. Why should we have a problem with that?” he said.
Along with renewing the defence agreement, Prime Minister Modi and President Obama, in their bilateral talks held at the White House, also announced that the U.S. will cooperate as a knowledge partner for India’s upcoming National Defence University. (ANI)
