Chennai, August 20: Floral tributes, administration of communal harmony pledge and distribution of welfare assistances marked the 65th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in Tamil Nadu.
At Raj Bhavan, Governor Surjit Singh Barnala administered Communal harmony pledge to officers and staff of Raj Bhavan.
Chief Minister M Karunanidhi administered ‘Sadbhavana Diwas’ pledge, assuring to work for the unity of the country with communal harmony, to his Ministerial colleagues, officials and staff of the Secretariat after paying floral tributes to a portrait of Rajiv Gandhi.
Senior Ministers, including K Anbazhagan, Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin and Chief Secretary K S Sripathy were among others present on the occasion.
At Congress headquarters, Sathyamurthy Bhavan, TNCC President K V Thangabalu and senior leaders including Congress Legislature Party Leader D Sudarsanam, MLAs and MPs, paid floral tributes to a portrait of Gandhi.
Elsewhere in the state, Congressmen garlanded the statues of Gandhi and distributed welfare assistance to poor people.
Meanwhile, a Puducherry report said Chief Minister V Vaithilingam and his cabinet colleagues, Speaker R Radhakrishnan, legislators and freedom fighters paid floral tributes at the statue of the late leader.
