Jaipur, December 29: The Rajasthan Police today said it will renew efforts to trace a former senior police officer who has been absconding for nearly 13 years after being chargesheeted for allegedly raping a tribal woman.
The woman was allegedly abducted, taken to Noida in Uttar Pradesh and raped by former Deputy Inspector General Madhukar Tandon in January 1997. Police said they had submitted the chargesheet in the case against Tandon the same year, but he had absconded by then and was later declared a fugitive.
As the victim, hailing from Rajasthan’s Dausa district, sat on a dharna here today along with her family members and Independent MP Kirori Lal Meena, Home Minister Shanti Dhariwal said the government will find out why the official was not arrested and whether he is alive or dead.
