Rajasthanis do not celebrate Diwali in Coimbatore

Coimbatore, November 05: A majority of two lakh Rajasthanis, particularly Jain community, here did not celebrate Diwali in protest against the murder of two children last Friday.

The Rajasthani Sangh, for the first time, resolved to keep a low profile without celebrating the festival and share the grief of the bereaved family members, Goutham Suman, Media Committee Chairman of the Sangh, told PTI.

The members only performed pooja at home and shops in the city and there was no exchange of greetings and boxes of sweets or bursting of crackers.

The Rajasthanis usually spend crores of rupees on crackers and sweets during Diwali. However, this time it was a on a low key, he said.

Some Sangh members, however, distributed sweets to customers and clients, saying it was a customary practice.
