Rajasthan continues Surya Namaskar

Mr. Vasudev Devanani, Education Minister of Rajasthan while talking to newsmen at BJP headquarter at Jaipur told that Surya Namaskar program would continue in the schools of Rajasthan State. He further said that the controversy is unwarranted. He told that one can salute the Sun while sitting at home. He justified Surya Namaskar by saying that in many countries like Mongolia the Sun is worshipped. He also said that certain position of Surya Namaskar resembles Namaz. He pointed out that if one can look at the Moon while breaking a fast, there should be any objection to looking at the Sun. He added that State Govt. would file its affidavit in the Court if this program is challenged.

He issued instruction to all the Secondary and Senior Secondary Schools to organize 20 minutes Assembly program every morning for prayers, Surya Namaskar, Mediation and reading of newspapers. This move is being opposed from various section of society including Arya Samaj and Muslim organizations.

CM of Rajasthan, Ms. Vasundhara Raje told that ‘Surya Namaskar’ is nothing to do with religion but it ensures good health of the students.

It may be noted that in view of the opposition against Surya Namaskar, Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, CM of M.P. had made Yoga exercise optional in schools.
