Hyderabad :Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has said the town of Rajahmundry in East Godavari district will get back its ancient name of Rajamahendravaram.
“The original name of Rajamahendravaram should rejuvenate us into rebuilding the city as a modern, tourist hub and mega city. People here need not go elsewhere for employment but get jobs locally. All others should come here for work,” the chief minister said yesterday.
He said a Government Order (GO) in this connection will be issued soon.
The ancient name is derived from a Chalukya dynasty ruler of the 11th century who ruled over the city.
The city, located on the banks of Godavari, is the headquarters of Rajahmundry urban and rural mandals. It acquired the current name Rajahmundry in the British period.
