Hyderabad, August 24: Endowment Minister Gade Venkata Reddy on Monday stated the state government would reconstruct the Rajagopuram of Srikalahasteshwara Swamy temple in Chittoor district by 2012.
The Rajagopuram had collapsed earlier this year in May after cracks had appeared in it.
Speaking to media after the review meeting convened under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister over the collapsed Rajagopuram, Mr Venkata Reddy said the foundation stone for reconstruction of the Gopuram would be laid on August 30.
The Endowments Minister said that Navayuva Constructions, a private company, had voluntarily come forward to construct Gopuram at a cost of Rs 30 crore. The Gopuram would be constructed with stones as per the suggestion of Agama pundits.
Mr Venkata Reddy also said that the government had not yet decided to order CBI inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Administrative Board.
He said former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy had rejected the demand for CBI probe into TTD Board as it was tantamount to spoiling the image of holy temple.
The Endowments Minister said the government would initiate action against those who found guilty in vigilance report submitted on alleged irregularities in the sale of seva tickets.
Reacting on hunger strike of former chairman of TTD B Karunakar Reddy, Mr Venkata Reddy said the government would consider his proposal if he opts for other than CBI inquiry. He appealed to him to call off his fast.
