Former telecom minister A. Raja, key accused in the 2G spectrum allocation case, arrived in Chennai Friday evening to a tumultuous welcome by his supporters. He went to DMK headquarters to meet party president M. Karunanidhi.
This is Raja’s first visit to his home state in over 15 months. He was arrested on Feb 1, 2011, and released on bail May 15.
Hundreds of DMK workers gathered at Chennai airport and milled around Raja as soon as he came out of the airport. They shouted slogans greeting Raja and beat drums.
A smiling Raja, DMK’s propaganda secretary, waved his hands to his supporters.
Many party cadres wore T-shirts with Raja’s picture on them.
From the airport Raja went to DMK headquarters to meet Karunanidhi. According to DMK sources, Raja will reach his native Perambalur Sunday.
