In a perfect end to the week, the city and its adjoining areas in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh Sunday experienced a spell of rain. More rainfall is likely Monday, the Met office has forecast.
Sunday’s maximum temperature settled at 34 degrees Celsius — average for this time of the season while the minimum was 25 degrees Celsius, slightly below the average.
The national capital received 35.8 mm of rainfall from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., which cooled the city but also led to water-logging and traffic snarls in some parts in the afternoon.
According to Delhi Police, traffic jams were reported at Kashmere Gate area in the north and Adchini and AIIMS junction in south Delhi in the afternoon but these cleared by evening.
Being a Sunday, Delhiites made the most of the pleasant weather and came out of their homes to shop and eat with families and friends.
Most thronged popular spots like the zoo, India Gate, Connaught Place and Dilli Haats.
“This rain was much awaited. I am glad it lasted for sometime, making it a pleasant Sunday,” Karan Khanna, a college student, told IANS.
Residents also reported rainfall in Noida in Uttar Pradesh and Gurgaon in Haryana. Both places border the national capital.
Sunday’s maximum humidity was 95 percent while the minimum was 83 percent.
According to the Met Office, more rain is expected Monday.
“The sky will remain cloudy and parts of the city will experience a thunderstorm,” said a Met official.
The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 33 and 24 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Saturday’s maximum temperature was slightly higher at 34.8 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature was 23.7 degrees Celsius, three degrees below the season’s average.
