Rains play havoc in Hyderabad

Heavy rains in the wee hours of Wednesday wrecked havoc in many parts of Hyderabad causing massive flooding in many low lying parts of the city.

Residents had a tough time in many residential areas like Kukatpally, Moosapet, Begumpet, Alwal Miyapur, Nizampet, Qutbullapur when storm water entered their homes. Met authorities said that the different areas in the city received rain fall ranging from 6 to 12 cm rainfall from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning.

There were traffic snarls in areas like Mehipatnam, Tolichowki, Gachibowli as motorists struggled to reach their offices.

The TS Southern Power Distribution Company Limited CMD Raghu Rama Reddy said that the power was stopped for many areas like Nizampet, Kompally, Miyapur, Kukatpally and other areas to prevent any untoward incidents.

Rain water entered Devnar School (School for visually impaired) at Secundrabad causing severe inconvenience to the inmates numbering over 400. The inmates complained that they got no help and not even the breakfast due to flooding of the school building’s ground floor.

GHMC Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy said Hussain Sagar received 5,000 cusecs feet of water. He appealed the citizens to remain indoors except in case of any emergency.  He reviewed the situation along with the top officials of police, irrigation, power departments. He directed the power and irrigation department to work in tandem. He said that the state government would take the help of National Disaster Response Force if there was a need for the same. (INN)
