Chandigarh, Aug 7: Light to moderate rains occurred in various parts of Punjab and Haryana today, providing relief to people from hot and humid weather conditions. According to MeT Department officials, the Union Territory of Chandigarh received 9.2 mm rainfall.
Among other areas witnessing rain were Ambala (15.1-mm), Hisar (26.4-mm), Karnal (27-mm), Narnaul (9-mm), Bhiwani (11.2-mm), Amritsar (9-mm), Ludhiana (7.8-mm) and Patiala (12.1-mm).
Widespread rains caused water-logging in several parts, especially in low-lying areas, leading to traffic snarls.Weather experts said that the rain will be beneficial for Kharif crops, especially paddy. The Union Territory of Chandigarh recorded a minimum temperature of 26 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal.
In Haryana, Ambala, Hisar, Karnal, Narnaul and Bhiwani registered their minimums at 25.4, 27.1, 25, 25.8, and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively.
In Punjab, Amritsar’s minimum was 21.3 degrees Celsius, four notches below normal, while Ludhiana and Patiala settled at 26.7 and 26.6 degrees Celsius, respectively.
