New Delhi, August 26: Fifteen people lost their lives in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh today due to floods and rain related incidents, while heavy showers drenched many parts of the Northern region.
While moderate to heavy showers lashed several parts of the national capital, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, people in Punjab and Haryana sweated it out in the absence of monsoon rains.
Though Delhi today received 364.2 mm rainfall till 5:30 PM, high humidity levels, oscillating between 69 and 90 per cent, caused much hardships to the Delhiites. After marginal drop, day temperature settled at 33 degrees Celsius in the capital.
While floods and rains claimed eight more lives in Sitapur, Lakhimpur and Siddhartnagar districts of Uttar Pradesh, taking the official toll of victims to 62, seven more deaths were reported from across Bihar. Three deaths were reported in Darbhanga, two in Muzaffarpur and one each in Sitamarhi and Supaul district of Bihar since last evening.
Many places in Rajasthan also received moderate showers with Ajmer recording maximum rainfall of 20 mm till evening even as mercury touched the mark of 40 degrees at Bikaner and Jaisalmer.
Rains and occasional cool breeze kept weather pleasant in the hill state of Himachal Pradesh with people in scenic Shimla enjoying the day at 22.8 degrees comfortable day temperature.
