Hyderabad, October 07: The spate of rains that have lashed the city have brought relief in to Greater Hyderabad in considerably controlling the mosquito menace, informed the District Medical and Health officials.
They said that the mosquito density has declined and also the number of swine flu cases.
In a review meeting on communicable diseases convened at GHMC on Monday, the officials said that however, flood related and cases of waterborne diseases like jaundice, measles have been reported in some parts of the city.
GHMC Commissioner S P Singh directed all the Medical and Health officers to take the initiative and educate vendors of food joints to step up the enforcement systematically.
He asked the officials to conduct food quality inspections, take as many water samples and conduct meetings with members of hotel associations and educate them on initiating self-regulation. He added that a certificate of appreciation can be issued to the hotels who maintain the quality of food and health standards. He suggested that It would safer if food joints use disposable plates and cups.
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) officials have been asked to study the feasibility of supplying drinking water separately to small eateries on main roads.
The Additional Commissioner (UCD) has been asked to monitor maintenance of sanitation and cleanliness in slums.
The Additional Commissioner, health and Sanitation, Md. Aleem Basha has informed that special sanitation teams have been formed for maintenance of sanitation levels and weekly reports will be submitted on the inspections of food joints by medical officers.
