Rain lashes city

Hyderabad, July 06: Rain lashed the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad on Monday night resulting in the flooding of main roads causing traffic jams and inundation of lowlaying areas.

Traffic movement on main roads came to a grinding halt in several places. The rain, which began in the evening, continued till late night, causing severe inconvenience and hardships to people living in low-lying areas and to the motorists who were caught in the traffic jams for a long time.

While the rain brought cheers to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) as they are hopeful of receiving good volume of inflows into the Osmansagar, Himayatsagar, Singur and Manjira.

Currently, the levels in the said reservoirs are very low. The sudden rain has also exposed the poor civic infrastructure in draining out the rain water.

Main roads leading to Ameerpet, CM’s Camp Office, Lakadikapul, Greenlands, Somajiguda, Musheerabad, RP Road, Fatehnagar, SP Road, Begumpet, Punjaguta and several parts of the Old City were inundated with rain water for several hours.

Low-lying areas in MS Maktha, BS Maktha, Khairatab a d , Mehdipatnam, Basheerbagh, Paradise, Tolichowki, Nadeem Colony, Talabkatta, LB Nagar, Kishanbagh, Dilsukhnagar and several other areas were also inundated with rain water.
